Common Pests – Mosquitoes

Almost everyone has experienced the unpleasant bite of the mosquito.  Not only can mosquitoes carry diseases that afflict humans, they can also transmit disease to pets. While there are over 200 species of mosquitoes, they share one common trait – their love of standing water.  Standing water provides the optimum environment for mosquitoes to lay eggs.   Clogged ditches, temporary pools and puddles are all prolific mosquito breeding sites. Other sites in which some species lay their eggs include:

  • Tree holes
  • Old tires
  • Buckets
  • Toys
  • Potted plant trays or saucers
  • Plastic covers on trampolines and hot tubs

Keeping these areas free of standing water will help to minimize the mosquito population.
